NBA: Durant applauds ‘favourite player’ Edwards after Timberwolves sweep Suns

When you start to receive praise from some of the best in the game, you can say you’re doing something right, and that has been the case for Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards.

The former No. 1 pick received huge compliments from two-time NBA champion and a member of the league’s 75th Anniversary Team, Kevin Durant, after their Western Conference playoff first-round series came to an end on Sunday night.

Edwards scored 40 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out six assists, got two blocks, and shot 7-of-13 from the three-point mark to lead Minnesota to their first playoff series win in 20 years as they swept Durant and the Suns 122-116 at Footprint Center in Game 4 of their playoff series.

After the contest, Durant, who had 33 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, said he was impressed with Edwards and added that the 22-year-old is his favorite player to watch.

“So impressed with Ant. My favorite player to watch,” Durant said. Just grown so much since he came into the league.

“At 22, just his love for the game shines bright. That’s one of the reasons why I like him the most. He just loves basketball. He’s grateful to be in this position. He’s grateful to take advantage of every opportunity he’s gotten. Love everything about Ant. Everything.”

“[I] will be watching him going forward and you know he’s going to go out there and play extremely hard every single night. But I was really impressed with him and he’s going to be somebody that I’m going to be following for the rest of his career.”

Edwards scored 31 of his 40 points in the second half and finished 13 of 23 from the field, setting a new franchise record by becoming the player with the most 30+ point game in Timberwolves history, surpassing Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett.

Minnesota will now wait for the winner of the series between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers, whom they will face in the Western Conference semifinals.
