Egyptian giants suffered their first loss of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after they were beaten 2-0 by Brazilian side Palmeiras at the MetLife Stadium on Thursday, Afrosport reports.
The Red Devils came into the game off a goalless draw with MLS side Inter Miami, a match that saw Emam Ashour injured and Trezeguet miss a penalty
They started the brighter side in East Rutherford but were not clinical enough in the final third.
Palmeiras breathed a sigh of relief in the 39th minute when Raphael Veiga was initially shown a red card for a challenge on Zizo but was reduced to a yellow card after VAR review.
The Alviverde emerged the better side in the second half and were ahead four minutes after the restart when Wessam Abou Ali put the ball into his own net from a Anibal Moreno free kick.
Abel Ferreira’s team were 2-0 up 10 minutes when a swift counter attack saw Flaco Lopez finish off in clinical fashion.
