Samu Aghehowa was on the scoresheet for FC Porto but it was not enough as Lionel Messi inspired a 2-1 comeback win for Inter Miami in the FIFA Club World Cup on Thursday, Afrosport reports.
Both teams came into the fixture in Atlanta having played out goalless draws in their respective opening Group A games.
It was the Portuguese giants who were ahead at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium just eight minutes in when Samu converted from the penalty spot after Noah Allen fouled Joao Mario in the box.
It was the 21-year-old Spaniard of Nigeria heritage’s 26th goal in his 44th competitive outing this season.
The game remained in favour of Porto until the 47th minute when Telasco Segovia connected with Marcelo Weigandt’s cross to put the ball beyond goalkeeper Claudio Ramos.
The comeback was complete for Inter Miami in the 54th minute when Messi buried in a sublime free kick. It was the Argentine maestro’s 50th goal for the Florida outfit in his 61st competitive appearance.

The victory puts Javier Mascherano’s men on the cusp of reaching the round of 16 with a draw in their final game against Palmeiras enough to see them through.
Meanwhile, Porto will face a tough task when they tackle Egyptian giants Al-Ahly who are also searching for their first win in the tournament.
