‘I’ve been waiting for a long time’ – Chukwueze reacts to scoring first AC Milan goal

Samuel Chukwueze says he has been waiting for a long time after finally scoring his Serie A goal for AC Milan in their 3-1 win away at Hellas Verona on Sunday afternoon.

Theo Hernandez had put the Rossoneri in front in the 44th minute before Christian Pulisic doubled in the 50th minute for Milan’s 5000th in the Italian top flight.

Tijjani Noslin pulled one back for Verona in the 64th minute but Chukwueze, who came on for Swiss-Nigerian forward Noah Okafor, put the game to bed 11 minutes to the end of regular time.

The Nigerian winger, who joined from Villarreal last summer, now wants to keep scoring on a consistent basis.

“I am really happy. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time,” Chukwueze said after the game.

“These first few months were not easy, but I’ve continued to work hard. Winning was important, and I want to keep scoring to help the team.

“I must continue working hard because they signed me to score goals. I trust the coach and his plans for me. I just need to remain focused and continue working hard.”

Reacting to Chukwueze’s goal, Milan manager Stefano Pioli said: “Chukwueze is in his first Serie A season, where the demands upon him are certainly different to those he had at Villarreal. He is working hard and trying, but sometimes people rush to judge players. I am glad for the goal and that he is coming on with the right attitude when called upon.

“We have the necessary patience to wait for all our players to develop.”

Milan have now moved above Juventus into second place and are 13 points away behind leaders and fierce rivals Inter Milan.
