Garnacho to pay for Man Utd team dinner as punishment for sub reaction – Amorim

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed the punishment for Alejandro Garnacho after the winger headed straight down the tunnel after being substituted against Ipswich Town, Afrosport reports.

With United down to 10 men following Patrick Dorgu’s red card at Old Trafford on Wednesday, Amorim took Garnacho off for Noussair Mazraoui just before the halftime break.

The Argentine chose to go down the tunnel into the dressing room rather than take his seat on United’s bench as the team defeated Ipswich to end their three-game winless run in the Premier League.

Amorim, who spoke to Garnacho to understand the reason for such behaviour, said the 20-year-old Argentina international “will pay for a meal for his teammates” as punishment.

“It was funny because in the next day he came to me, to my office,” said Amorim as his pre-match conference on Friday.

“I did some investigations, and he went to the dressing room, he changed his clothes because he was wet.

“He watched the game in the different [place], not on the bench. In the end of the game, he was there, then he went home, so there’s not an issue there.

“But I told them that in Manchester United everything is important, and the perception in a big club is really important, so he’s going to pay a dinner to all the team, and that’s it.

“I think he understands. He was subbed, he was playing well and has to go off in that moment of the game. It’s hard to deal with everything but they have to deal with everything. I just try to help them be better footballers.”

United are up against Fulham in the FA Cup fifth round of the FA Cup on Sunday at Old Trafford.
