Arsenal forward Gabriel Jesus is set to undergo surgery on his left knee after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Afrosport reports.
Jesus was stretchered off during Arsenal’s FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester United on Sunday at Emirates Stadium.
The 27-year-old inadvertently injured himself after tackling United captain Bruno Fernandes in the first half, a sequence of play that saw the Portuguese cautioned for his outburst at referee Andrew Madley.
The former Manchester City forward has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 27 matches across all competitions for Arsenal this season.
“Further to being substituted during our match with Manchester United on Sunday, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” a statement on the club website read.
“Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme.”
The Brazil international, who has recently found form for the Gunners, having scored six goals in his last seven appearances, joins a growing list of injured players at the north London club.
Jesus will join the likes of Bukayo Saka, Ben White, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ethan Nwaneri, and Riccardo Calafiori on the sidelines.
Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League with 40 points, six behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand, and they host north London rivals Tottenham on Wednesday.
