Josh Maja: Nigerian forward out for ‘several weeks’ with injury

Nigerian forward Josh Maja is set for a spell on the sidelines after Championship club West Bromwich Albion confirmed he will be out for ‘several weeks’, Afrosport reports.

A statement on the club’s website revealed that Maja has sustained a lower leg injury and is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days before entering a period of rehabilitation.

The 26-year-old, who joined the Baggies in August 2023, has been in good form this season with 12 goals and two assists in 26 matches.

Maja, the second top scorer in the Championship, behind Norwich’s Borja Sainz (15), last played for West Brom in their 1-1 draw away at Swansea on Saturday, 4 January.

The Nigerian is expected to return before the end of the ongoing campaign, and his injury comes at a critical time for West Brom, who are sixth in the Championship standings and continue to push for promotion to the Premier League.

The Baggies are in action on Saturday when they host 19th-placed Stoke City at the Hawthorns.
