Cristiano Ronaldo has been encouraged by his former Manchester United teammate, Wes Brown to follow Lionel Messi’s lead and make a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), Afrosport reports.
This suggestion comes as Ronaldo’s current contract with Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League is set to expire in the summer of 2025.
Brown believes that a switch to MLS would be a fitting next step in the Portuguese’s illustrious career, especially with Messi already playing there.
“Cristiano Ronaldo has to go to America, especially since Lionel Messi is there,” Brown told Sports Daily.
“He’s played everywhere and succeeded. America would be a great addition to that list.
“Seeing them compete again would be incredible.
At 39, Ronaldo is still performing at an elite level. He scored 50 goals for Al-Nassr during the 2023-24 season and has already netted 16 goals in the current campaign.
Despite his age, he remains in peak physical form and has expressed his intention to keep playing well into his 40s.
Messi, meanwhile, joined Inter Miami in 2023 under similar circumstances and has thrived in the MLS. The Argentine superstar scored 23 goals last season and helped his team win the Supporters Shield, solidifying his status as a global icon in the American league.
Ronaldo and Messi have dominated football for over a decade, collecting countless trophies and breaking records.
The prospect of seeing them compete once more, this time on American soil, will no doubt excite fans worldwide.
Ronaldo’s desire to hit 1,000 career goals further fuels speculation about his next move.
