La Liga club Valencia has appointed West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan as their new head coach, Afrosport reports.
Valencia paid the release clause in the Spaniard’s contract, which is reportedly in the region of £3-4 million, allowing him to return to his homeland after spending two seasons with the Baggies.
Corberan has penned a two-and-a-half-year deal until the end of the 2026-27 season with the La Liga club, following the sacking of head coach Ruben Baraja on Monday.
Albion, in a statement, revealed that they had reached an agreement with Valencia and wished the 41-year-old the best.
“Albion have reached an agreement in principle for Carlos Corberán to depart the club to pursue a new opportunity with La Liga side Valencia,” the statement on their club website read.”
“The 41-year-old is set to return to his homeland with the club’s gratitude and best wishes following a two-year tenure at The Hawthorns.”
The Championship club added that coaches Chris Brunt, Damia Abella, and Boaz Myhill will “oversee first team duties” until a new coach is found.
Corberan joined Albion in October 2022 and led them to a ninth-placed finish in his first season in charge as well as a fifth-placed finish last season, where they lost to Southampton in the play-off semi-finals.
The Spaniard departs the Hawthorns with Albion seventh in the Championship standings, a place outside the playoff spot. He won 47 of his 107 games in charge of the Baggies.
Corberan , however, joins Valencia, who have just two wins in 17 league games this campaign and are currently 19th in the La Liga table, four points away from relegation.
Valencia last played out a 2-2 draw against Alaves on Sunday in La Liga and is up against champions Real Madrid on 3 January in their next league game.
