Postecoglou explains Tottenham’s different approach in the Europa League and Premier League

Ange Postecoglou has explained the different approach Tottenham Hotspur has taken in the Premier League and UEFA Europa League, Afrosport reports.

The North London outfit have been in dismal form in the Premier League and are currently 17th with two games left to play.

They have however fared better in the Europa League where they have reached the final and will face English rivals Manchester United next Wednesday.

Postecoglou, speaking in a pre-final press conference, said the difference in approach was down to personnel having had to deal with injuries to a number of key players for much of the season.

“Some of it is just personnel. When you’re putting teams together, it’s a sum of all parts that makes it effective,” the former Celtic boss said.

“When you make changes, you’re not able to play with the same fluency and rhythm. If you look at our back four in Europe, the reason that works so well is that they all complement each other.

“We’ve got the speed, the power, the technical ability, we’ve got the calmness we need so it all kind of fits together.

“The same with our front three and midfield. When you have elements of that missing, there are 11 players out there but it doesn’t allow you to play in the same manner and look as fluent.”

Tottenham will play Aston Villa on Friday night before they turn their attention to the Europa League final in Bilbao and will end the season against Brighton & Hove Albion.
