Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their first defeat of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after a high-scoring 4-3 loss to Borussia Dortmund at the TQL Stadium on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
The South African giants were fresh off a 1-0 win in their Group F opener against South Korean side Ulsan in Orlando and were ahead this time in Cincinnati when Brazilian forward Lucas Ribeiro scored in the 11th minute.
Sundowns however could not hold on to their lead as Felix Nmecha, Serhou Guirassy and Jobe Bellingham all found the back of the net between the 16th and 45th minute to give Dortmund a comfortable first half lead.
The German giants extended it in the 59th minute when Khuliso Mudau put the ball into his own net before Iqraam Rayners halved the deficit three minutes later.
Sundowns scored their third and final goal in the 90th minute courtesy of Lebo Mothiba.
An enthralling encounter as @BVB take the points. 😮💨#FIFACWC

The result drops the Brazilians to second and will be hopeful Fluminense do not get a win when they face Ulsan in the other Group F game in East Rutherford on Saturday.
