Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid is expected to be out for at least a week after sustaining a nasal fracture, the team announced on Monday.
Embiid, the 2023 NBA Most Valuable Player, caught a forearm and elbow to the face while jostling for a rebound late in the first half of the Sixers’ 121-107 loss to the Indiana Pacers last Friday.
The Sixers say Joel Embiid will be re-evaluated in a week with his nasal fracture he suffered in Friday’s loss to Indiana.

The 30-year-old was battling for a defensive board against the Pacers’ Bennedict Mathurin when he got hit with an arm to the bridge of his nose. The Cameroon-born star fell to the ground afterwards, holding on to his face as he was writhing in pain.
Embiid finished the game with 12 rebounds, four rebounds, and five assists in about 17 minutes. The Olympic gold medallist was playing in just his sixth game of the season for the Sixers, who had played 23 games up until that point.
Philadelphia on Monday revealed that the Cameroon-born star will be reevaluated in one week.
Embiid has been troubled with injuries from last season and has missed a lot of action this campaign due to swelling in his left knee as well as serving a three-game suspension for an incident with a reporter.
Philadelphia has been quite unlucky this season, as the team has fielded its “Big Three” of Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George in only three games.
