Italian Serie A club Napoli is facing a loss of €70 million after delaying the sales of their star players Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia last summer, Afrosport reports.
Napoli’s coach, Antonio Conte confirmed that both Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia wanted to leave the club during the 2024 summer transfer window.
At the time, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) was reportedly ready to pay €200 million for the two players.
However, Napoli decided not to sell them and Conte regrets that did not happen.
“I spoke about disappointment not towards the player, not towards the club, but towards myself, because in six months I failed to change the situation,” Conte said per Football Italia.
“Maybe I was a little presumptuous because I thought I could have a stronger impact. I couldn’t do it. It’s a pity because this is a great player, but we also have to accept reality.”
Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia helped Napoli win their first Serie A title in 33 years. The Nigerian scored 26 goals in the league that season.
He is currently on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray where he has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 16 appearances.
Osimhen was replaced by the signing of Romelu Lukaku with the big Belgian scoring seven goals and providing six assists in 18 Serie A games so far.
