Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has called on Jadon Sancho to work harder after he was recently dropped from the Blues’ starting lineup, Afrosport reports.
The Manchester United loanee was an unused substitute in the Blues’ UEFA Conference League game against Panathinaikos and the Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
It raised questions on the possibility of an issue with his form which has been impressive since he joined Chelsea on loan on deadline day of the summer transfer window, providing three assists in five league games.
Maresca clarified that Sancho is still very much part of the team and will be involved in games during the congested fixture schedule.
The Italian also explained that Sancho was dropped in the last two games due to tactical reasons.
“Jadon has been doing well since he arrived with us,” he said. “Players cannot maintain the same level for the whole season because the amount of games is huge, so the last two games he didn’t play simply down to tactical decisions.
“He will play many games and the only thing he has to do is continue to work hard and when we give him a chance, he has to take it.”
Chelsea will face Newcastle again in the EFL Cup round of 16 on Wednesday night.
