Inter Milan and Sampdoria condemn racist abuse towards Akinsanmiro

Inter Milan and Sampdoria have condemned the racist abuse that was targeted towards Ebenezer Akinsanmiro during the latter’s Serie B match against Brescia on Sunday, Afrosport reports.

The 20-year-old Nigerian is currently on loan at Sampdoria from Inter and was racial abused by Brescia fans during the course of the match.

Things got heated when Massimo Coda put Sampdoria ahead and Akinsanmiro went towards the direction of the Brescia fans and made monkey chants to them in defiance to the despicable act.

Sampdoria coach Leonardo Semplici substituted him moments later to avoid an escalation while Brescia boss Pierpaolo Bisoli criticised the Remo Stars academy graduate for inciting violence and provoking fans.

Sampdoria stood in solidarity with Akinsanmiro on X, with Inter responding to their post stating: “We are all united against any form of discrimination. We stand with you, Ebenezer.”

Racism has been a serious problem in Italian football with players such as AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and former Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku among the most recent victims of abuse.
