Iheanacho: Carrick confident in Middlesbrough forward’s goalscoring ability

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick was never in doubt of Kelechi Iheanacho and his goalscoring ability when he opened his account for the club in their 2-1 Championship win over Oxford United on Saturday, Afrosport reports.

The Nigerian forward, who is on loan from Sevilla, had gone seven games in the English second tier without scoring when equalised for Boro in the 48th minute.

It was also his first league goal in almost two years, last scoring when Leicester City where in the Championship.

“…But Kel [Iheanacho] knows it. He has played at a level, and goals make you feel a bit better, naturally,” Carrick said.

“I wasn’t concerned, I knew he would score and hopefully he has got more in him, I am sure he has. It was a massive goal for us.

“…I liked how we responded and we spoke about being positive. There is going to be a hell of a lot more ups and downs before the end of the season. We can’t let it affect us. We have to stay positive with it.”

Middlesbrough’s win put them level on 57 points with West Bromwich Albion and in contention for the Premier League promotion playoffs.
