Wednesday’s face-off between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr. has been cancelled after the “egg-slap” incident that ensued between the rival boxers on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.
Eubank Jr. slapped Benn across the face with an egg during a chaotic stare down between the boxers ahead of their 26 April super middleweight bout.
The British rivals, who will battle at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, exchanged words in a faceoff at the Manchester Central venue, with Eubank Jr’s egg-slap a reference to the already-rescinded drug ban on Benn for prohibited substances, Clomifene.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) claimed that Benn’s adverse test result was “most likely” caused by egg contamination, and the 28-year-old also stated that his egg intake increased his testosterone levels.
The two boxers were initially scheduled to fight at O2 Arena in London in October 2022 before the bout was called off after Benn’s provisional suspension.
The Ring Magazine, promoters of the fight, revealed in a statement on X, “Today’s scheduled face-off between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn has been cancelled due to security concerns; tomorrow’s press conference still goes ahead as planned with additional security.”

Eubank Jr. (34-3, 25 KOs) and Benn (23-0, 14Kos) will rekindle a long-time rivalry, dating back to their fathers – Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn – who battled twice over 30 years ago.
