DR Congo midfielder Mpanzu signs new Luton Town contract

Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu has signed a contract extension with Luton Town that will see him remain at Kenilworth Road for an 11th season.

The DR Congo midfielder has been with the Hatters since 2013 when he joined from West Ham United, first on loan before being made permanent in 2014. He has gone on to make 364 appearances for the club, scoring 23 goals and providing 34 assists.

Mpanzu has become the first player in history to play for the same English club in the National League, League Two, League One, Championship and Premier League. He helped Luton to top-flight promotion for the first time in 31 years after seeing off Coventry City on penalties in the Championship playoff final on May 27.

Upon signing his new contract, Mpanzu said: “We are looking to fight and stay in this league, I cannot wait to contribute to that this season.

“I’ve been at the club for so long, so to get it sorted and get it signed is all good. I’m so happy and looking forward to getting back out there at Kenilworth Road in front of the fans.”

Luton boss Rob Edwards also added: “Pelly’s story is such a special one, and everyone knows that now. Ever since he came in, his consistency has been brilliant. He is someone who gives everything. He leaves it all out there.

“So it’s only right that he now gets this opportunity to play in the Premier League, because he’s worked so hard for it.”

Luton will begin their Premier League campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion on August 12.
