Djokovic gets wildcard for Geneva Open ahead of Roland Garros

Djokovic focused on winning Grand Slam titles rather than going up the rankings

Novak Djokovic will compete at the upcoming Geneva Open in Switzerland after accepting a wild card ahead of the French Open, Afrosport reports.

Djokovic, who is aiming to return to form before Roland Garros with the hopes of winning a record 25th Grand Slam title, withdrew from the ongoing Italian Open in Rome.

The Serbian has failed to win any of his last three matches, with early exits on clay in Monte Carlo and Madrid last month.

The 37-year-old has endured an inconsistent start to the season, reaching the Australian Open semi-finals earlier in the year but having to pull out due to injury against Germany’s Alexander Zverev after losing the first set.

Djokovic recently got to the final of the Miami Open in March, losing to Czech teenager Jakub Mensik.

The world number six has 12 wins in his 19 matches this season and will be hoping to increase the tally in Geneva, where he got to the semi-finals in his first appearance last year.

Overall, he has won 12 of his 19 matches this season and hopes to improve that record in Geneva.

The Geneva Open, an ATP 250 event, will begin on 18 May and end on 24 May, a day before the French Open begins.
