Victor Boniface has poked fun at fans who criticised him for not moving to Saudi Arabia after he netted the winner in Bayer Leverkusen’s comeback 3-2 extra time victory over FC Cologne in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.
The reigning cup champions were 2-0 down at BayArena after 54 minutes but found their way back through Patrik Schick’s brace, the equaliser coming deep in added time.
Off it went to extra time, and Boniface popped up with the winner in the 98th minute to book Leverkusen’s spot in the next round.
After the game, Boniface posted a short video on X of a woman in what appeared to be a sitcom, claiming she should have left after seeing another woman’s hair who apparently lied to her.

This seemed to be a subtle jig at fans who blamed the Nigerian forward for not securing a move to Al Nassr. The 24-year-old was heavily linked to the Middle East outfit, with his wages reported to a be a potential €15 million per year, and if converted to Nigerian currency, translates to a whooping ₦25 billion a year.
The move however did not materialise, with Al Nassr opting for Colombian forward Jhon Duran from Aston Villa for a reported fee of €77 million.
Boniface has clearly not allowed the rumours to Saudi Arabia distract him as he scored in Leverkusen’s 3-1 win over Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga at the weekend, his first game after recovering from a hamstring injury since the November international break.
The former Union Saint-Gilloise forward has now scored 10 goals in 17 competitive games this term, signifying his importance to Xabi Alonso’s team.
The Akure-born player will hope to make it three goals in a row when Leverkusen travel to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
