‘An unbelievable moment’ – Dessers on scoring later winner for Rangers

Iheanacho: Carrick confident in Middlesbrough forward’s goalscoring ability

Cyriel Dessers has described scoring the winner for Rangers in their 4-3 Scottish Premiership win win over Dundee FC as “an unbelievable moment”, Afrosport reports.

The Gers were 3-1 down after Dessers had a goal ruled out for offside that would have tied the game for 2-2.

With 15 minutes left on the clock, the Glasgow giants began their comeback with James Tavernier and Tom Lawrence levelling the game before Dessers struck the winner in the third of five additional minutes.

It was the Nigerian forward’s 45th competitive goal in what was his 100th appearance in a Rangers shirt.

“It was very nice to score so late, but the 90 minutes before that were not that nice. At the end if you can score like that in your 100th game it is a very nice feeling,” the former Genk player said.

“It was an unbelievable moment, scoring an injury time winner.”

He added: “I still can’t comprehend everything that happened, it was a rollercoaster again.

“Before you know it you are 2-0 down and then you know you have a steep hill to climb.

“We fought back and thought we had made it 2-2 but the goal was disallowed for offside and then they scored with their next chance.

“We showed our mentality to come back but we have done that too many times, it would be nice to get the first punch so they have to come onto us.

“We have that belief and we can turn games around and we have shown that this season.

“We have to take it like it comes but hopefully in the next game we can make it a bit easier.”

Reacting to the winner of Dessers, interim Rangers boss, Barry Ferguson said: “He is a brilliant worker, he is brilliant to work with. He is willing to try and improve his game even at his age which I love to see.

“I thought his chances you have got to give the goalkeeper credit, and the keeper made some brilliant saves but at least he is getting in those positions but one thing about the big man is he keeps going right until the end and he got his reward with the winning goal.”

Rangers remain second in the Premiership standings, 13 points behind leaders and city rivals Celtic and 18 points clear of third-placed Hibernian.
