AFCON 2023: Nigeria camp bubbles for Guinea-Bissau qualifier

The Super Eagles will battle Sao Tome and Principe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo for their final qualifying match for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on September 10.

The list of invited players is expected before the end of the week, and the Super Eagles’ camp for the match will open in Uyo on Monday, September 4.

Jose Peseiro’s men will return to Akwa Ibom State after playing their last two home games at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

Nigeria already qualified for the AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast and they need a win against Sao Tome and Principe to seal Group A top spot, ahead of Guinea-Bissau.

The last time the Super Eagles faced Sao Tome and Principe was in June 2022 for their first-leg encounter which ended 10-0 in the Moroccan city of Agadir, with Victor Osimhen scoring four goals.

Nigeria have gathered 12 points from five matches, followed by Guinea-Bissau with 10 points, Sierra Leone have five points and Sao Tome have just a point from five games.

The three-time African champions will be making their 20th AFCON appearance in the Ivory Coast with the aim of lifting the continental crown for the first time since 2013.
