Djokovic to begin 2023 with Adelaide tournament

LA Lakers fall short in James’ return to Cleveland

Novak Djokovic will commence the 2023 tennis season with an appearance at the Adelaide International tournament in preparation for the Australian Open.

The 21-time Grand Slam winner will participate in the ATP tournament, which commences on January 1, at the Drive Test Center in Australia.

According to the country’s Immigration Minister – Andrew Giles, Djokovic was granted a visa by the Australian government last month after it lifted its strict rules for unvaccinated travellers and has been shortlisted to compete at the outdoor court event.

The 35-year-old will be joined in the men’s event in Adelaide by Russian players Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev, Canadian of Togolese descent Felix Auger-Aliassime, and three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray.

The record nine-time Australian Open winner is currently free due to Serbia not participating in the inaugural United Cup team competition.

In Djokovic’s absence, Rafael Nadal emerged as champion at this year’s Australian Open and will look to make it consecutive wins when the tournament returns to Melbourne Park in Australia, from January 16.
