Liverpool, Real Madrid agree €10 million deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer

Trent Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid from Liverpool earlier than expected after the two clubs agreed to a €10 million deal on Friday, Afrosport reports.

Liverpool had announced that Alexander-Arnold will leave the club when his deal expires on June 30 after the England international failed to sign a contract extension to remain at Anfield.

The world football governing body, FIFA, approved a staggered format for this summer’s transfer window, with the first of the two phases set for 1-10 June. This allows teams to sign and register new players, particularly benefitting teams in the Club World Cup, scheduled to take place in the United States from 14 June to 13 July.

Alexander-Arnold, meanwhile, has agreed to a six-year deal and will become a Real Madrid player on Sunday, 1 June, making him available for their Club World Cup campaign.

The 26-year-old departs his boyhood club Liverpool after 20 years, having made 354 appearances, scored 23 goals and provided 92 assists.

Alexander-Arnold won eight major trophies with the Reds since his debut in 2016, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup and two League Cups.

“Liverpool FC can confirm an offer has been accepted for Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid for his transfer upon the opening of the June transfer window,” a statement from the Premier League club read.

“Liverpool will receive a fee for his services, with the deal to be concluded once the window opens on June 1.

“Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool FC with the club appreciative and grateful for his contribution to those successes.”

The England fullback will become Real Madrid’s second signing this summer, following the arrival of Spanish defender Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth.

Los Blancos will begin their Club World Cup participation with their opening group game against Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal on 18 June.
