Chelsea to reportedly pay £5m to opt out of Sancho permanent transfer

Maresca calls on Sancho to work harder after recent drop from Chelsea lineup

Chelsea will reportedly pay Manchester United a fee of £5 million if they are to opt of the deal to sign Jadon Sancho permanently, Afrosport reports.

The 24-year-old English winger joined the Blues on loan last summer with a clause that included an obligation to buy him for £25 million as long as the West London outfit do not finish below 14th place in the Premier League.

According to The Athletic, there is an additional clause that would allow Sancho back to United if Chelsea paid a compensation fee of just £5 million.

Sanch fell out of favour with previous Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag and was first sent out on loan to his former club Borussia Dortmund during the second half of last season before joining Chelsea for the 2024-25 campaign.

He had a bright start to life at Stamford Bridge but has seen his form dip with just one assist in 18 appearances since last scoring against Tottenham Hotspur on December 8.

The Manchester City academy graduate was purchased by United from Dortmund in 2021 for £73 million and has a deal that runs until 2026 with the option of a further year.
