Arsenal have appealed the controversial red card received by teenage defender Myles Lewis-Skelly during their Premier League match against Wolves on Saturday, Afrosport reports.
Lewis-Skelly was sent off in the 43rd minute in Arsenal’s 1-0 win at the Molineux as Wolves were also reduced to 10 men after Joao Gomes was given his marching orders in the second half.
The 18-year-old was penalised for a late tackle on Matt Doherty after catching the Wolves defender above the ankle to stop a counterattack.
Referee Michael Oliver immediately went for the red card, and his decision was upheld by the video assistant referee (VAR) Darren England.
Lewis-Skelly will miss Arsenal’s next three games: a home match against Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, next week’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg at Newcastle, and a trip to Leicester City in the league on 15 February.
The Football Association’s decision is yet to be known, but Arsenal is hoping the red card will be overturned.
Lewis-Skelly has played 17 times in all competitions for Arsenal this season, including nine in the Premier League, where he has started their last three games.
