Ogun State inaugurates committee for 2024 National Sports Festival

The Ogun State government inaugurated its committee for the 22nd National Sports Festival at the Alake Sports Centre, Abeokuta on Friday.

The multi-sports event, tagged Gateway Games 2024, is scheduled to commence on January 12, 2025 with the opening ceremony set for January 15.

Ogun State Commissioner for Sports, Wasiu Isiaka, who is also the Chairman of the Committee, admonished members to work assiduously in ensuring that Team Ogun succeeds and record remarkable success.

He said: “Beyond hosting the Festival, we have to approach this assignment with a sense of diligence and commitment,it is an opportunity for us to make a significant impact, not just on the sporting landscape of our State, but on the lives of our athletes.

“The success of the team is not just a reflection of our effort, but a testament to the passion spirit and resilience of the people of Ogun.”

Samson Oyeledun, a former Nigerian sprinter who competed in the 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics, and Falilat Ogunkoya, the first Nigerian to win an individual track and field medal at the Olympic games are also part of the committee.

Others are Executive Board Member of the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF), Ganiyu Majekodunmi, former Sports Directors in the Ogun State sports council, Tunji Onatolu and Iyabo Rotimi, sports journalists Biodun Alabi, Hakeem Akintunde and Wole Otayemi among others.

The inaugurated committees include the Media and Publicity committee, Marketing and Sponsorship, Planning and Logistics, Feeding, Transportation committee and Accreditation committee among others.

The commissioner confirmed that the 2024 National Sports Festival will be officially declared open at the MKO Abiola stadium, Abeokuta.
