Senegal produced a five-star performance in the quarter-final of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations to defeat South Africa 5-0 on Wednesday evening.
The emphatic victory at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers automatically secure a place for the Teranga Cubs in the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup later in the year.
South Africa showed a bit of composure in the opening minutes of the first 45 minutes to keep Serigne Saliou Dia’s boys at bay but they lost concentration in the final 10 minutes before the break with their two centre-backs scoring own goals.

Benjamin Wallis was the next victim of Senegal’s onslaught after conceding a free-kick and he mistakenly tapped in for the Teranga Cubs’ second goal, three minutes later.
Mamadou Sadio capped Senegal’s dominance before the break with a well-placed shot in the 44th minute to give them a 3-0 lead.
The game continued from they stopped before the break with Amara Diouf putting his name on the scoresheet in the 54th minute and he later added his second of the day to take his tally to five goals in the competition.
It was a game to forget for South Africa as they failed to register a single shot on target in 90 minutes while Senegal continue their unblemished run in the competition without conceding a goal.
The Teranga Cubs will face the winner of the match between Nigeria and Burkina Faso in the semi-final on May 14.
