AFCON 2023: Lookman brace helps Super Eagles sink rivals Cameroon

Ademola Lookman has called for team harmony to be on display when the Super Eagles take on Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Kigali on Friday, Afrosport reports.

Nigeria are in dire need of three points as they currently sit second from bottom in Group C, four behind the Amavubi who are joint-top with Benin and South Africa.

This has put the team under pressure in what will be the first official match for new head coach Eric Chelle.

Lookman however believes the quality within the squad the spirit of togetherness is what is needed to get the important win.

“Now, the team is looking forward to Friday’s game, the first game. We’re looking to go out there and to work hard and to impose ourselves on the game and have a good time,” the Atalanta Forward said.

“We know Rwanda is a good team, we know about their quality, but at the end of the day, we need to be focusing on ourselves and try to bring the game to them, to fight together for the win.

“Everybody knows the level of the players that we have here. It’s an incredible group of players, and most importantly, they’re good people. Everyone has the same objective – to want to win, and that’s very important.

“The group is together, very tight-knit, so that’s the winning formula. Everybody’s positive, we’ve had two good training sessions. So, we’re looking forward to putting out a great performance.”

Lookman will hope to open his account in the World Cup qualifiers having failed to score in three apperances.

The reigning African Player of the Year has eight goals and four assists in 27 caps for Nigeria.
