Vincent Aboubakar netted a brace as Cameroon defeated Cape Verde 4-1 in Yaounde to go top of Group D in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Libya temporarily took top spot after defeating Mauritius 2-1 on Thursday with 10 men and the Indomitable Lions were out to claim it back starting with Michael Ngadeu’s opener in the 13th minute.
Aboubakar doubled their lead in the 25th minute only for Cape Verde to halve the deficit 12 minutes later.
Cameroon however still had more in the tank as Aboubakar completed his brace from the penalty spot before the half time break while Seattle Sounders left-back Nouhou Tolo completed the scoring in the 54th minute.
Cameroon are tied on seven points with Libya but have a far more superior goal difference and will next take on Angola in Luanda on Tuesday.

In Saturday’s other qualifier, the Gambia thumped Seychelles 5-1 for their first win in Group F. Al Hazem forward Mohamed Badamosi scored a brace while Musa Barrow and Yankuba Minteh netted the rest, and Ryan Henriette got Seychelles’ consolation goal.
The result sees the Gambians remain second from bottom in Group F ahead of the Seychellois.
