Alexandra Popp is undoubtedly the face of women’s football in Germany and she stands out as an inspiration for the country at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2o23 in Australia and New Zealand.
Popp is a relentless leader on and off the pitch, always keen for the tackle and ready to put her body on the line for her team.
On top of that, she is famed for her supreme aerial dominance and is a striker with an eye for a goal.
The 32-year-old will lead Germany in Australia and New Zealand as captain, in what will be her fourth appearance at the Women’s World Cup after helping the country to a fourth-place finish in 2015.
Popp has scored 62 goals in 128 appearances for Die Nationalelf and in the recently concluded 2022-23 season, she provided 23 goals and six assists in 34 games for VFL Wolfsburg.
Popp has enjoyed success at every level, winning the UEFA U17 Women’s Championship in 2008, the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in 2010, and a gold medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The only elusive feat for the two-time Germany Footballer of the Year is the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the outing in Australia and New Zealand provides her with the perfect opportunity to complete her medal haul.
