Women’s World Cup: Ajibade beams with confidence, predicts Nigeria vs England outcome

Super Falcons star Rasheedat Ajibade has predicted that Nigeria will beat England 2-1 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 round of 16 on Monday.

The Atletico Madrid forward believes Randy Waldrum’s squad boasts of qualities that match the Lionesses and they can upstage the European champions at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

The last three meetings between Nigeria and England in international women’s football ended in two wins for the Super Falcons (2002 and 2004) while England’s only victory was in 1995.

Despite the difference in their FIFA ranking, Ajibade believes players’ performance will do the talking to get the result on Monday morning.

“We’ve seen a lot of surprises in this World Cup, it’s not about the name, it’s not about the players, it’s not about all of those things,” Ajibade told FIFA website.

“Honestly, I respect every player on the England team but we have a lot of quality on our team and a lot of talent that poses threats. I’m focused on what we can do as a team and not what England want to do and at the end of the day it boils down to what we will do on the field.

“Nigeria two, England one.”

Nigeria and England are yet to lose game at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 and the winner of Monday’s game will face either Colombia or Jamaica in the quarter-final.
