Done Deal: Man City complete signing of Algeria’s Ait-Nouri from Wolves

Manchester City on Monday announced the signing of Algerian defender Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth up to £36.3 million, Afrosport reports.

Ait-Nouri has signed a five-year contract with City until June 2030 and is able to feature for Pep Guardiola’s side at this month’s Club World Cup in the United States.

“I am incredibly happy and honoured to have joined Manchester City,” he told the club’s website. “City are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the chance to play for the club is a dream come true.

“I am also excited about working with and learning from Pep and his coaching team and getting to train and play alongside such a world class group of players.

“Joining City is also a very proud moment for my family too. Now I can’t wait to get started and to play in front of our supporters.”

The 23-year-old left-back departs Wolves after five years, having initially joined the club in a season-long loan from French club Angers in October 2020.

The Algeria international played 157 times for Wolves, scoring 12 goals and providing 19 assists, including five goals and seven assists in 41 games across all competitions last season.

Hugo Viana, City’s director of football added: “Rayan is a player that as a club we have been following closely for quite some time and we are delighted he has joined us,” he began.

“He already has extensive Premier League experience and has also demonstrated his quality at international level with Algeria.

“And at just 24 he is someone we feel sure will help us in our objective to bring more success to the Club.”

Ait-Nouri is City’s first signing this summer, with the club close to bringing in AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, who has reportedly undergone his medicals, while a deal has also been reportedly agreed for the signing of France international Rayan Cherki from Lyon.

The Algerian could make his club debut when City begin their Club World Cup campaign against Morocco’s Wydad AC on 18 June. Guardiola’s men will also face Al-Ain on 22 June before battling Juventus on 26 June in their final Group G game.
