Reigning Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions South Africa have set up a semi-final meeting with fierce rivals Nigeria following their 4-1 penalty shootout win over Senegal after a 0-0 extra time draw in Oudja, Afrosport reports.
Banyana Banyana topped Group C while the Teranga Lionesses finished as one of the two best third-placed finishers along with Mali.
It was a tight contest in Oudja with South Africa having more possession (57%) and total shots (15) compared to Senegal’s (10). They also had more shots on target (5) as against their opponent’s (3) while also creating the only one big chance all game.
In the ensuing shootout, South Africa converted all their spot kicks while Nguenar Ndiaye and Meta Kande missed for the Senegalese ladies.
