Akwa United manager Fatai Osho says he is excited by the level of tactical adaptability he has seen from his players.
Osho took the helm of affairs at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium last month in preparation for the 2023-24 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season and recorded a 1-0 win over Enugu Rangers in a friendly at the weekend.
It was preceded by a similar scoreline against Heartland FC in Owerri last Tuesday and Osho wants to his players to carry the momentum when the NPFL season officially kicks off.
“I must say that I am really excited that the boys have picked up nicely and their level of understanding and adaptability is quite impressive,” Osho said on the club website.
“The two matches we played against Heartland and Rangers were tough games and I want to commend my players for putting up such performances and above all for playing as a team with purpose.
“We have achieved a lot tactically and psychologically in the last few weeks as it’s evident in our recent results. We have kept two clean sheets against two good teams and in my assessment of the two games, we are solid defensively, in the middle we are compact, going forward we are dangerous and that is commendable. We have to keep working hard to ensure we are fully ready before the start of the new season.”

The NPFL season was initially supposed to kick off on September 9 with Akwa United to play Bayelsa United away from home. The Nigeria Premier League Limited (NPL) however announced a postponement of all fixtures to allow NPL board members focus on the upcoming Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Uyo.
No new dates have been announced on when the league can effectively begin.
