Leon Edwards gets new opponent for UFC 255 main event in London

Former welterweight champion Leon Edwards has been given a new opponent in the main event at UFC 255 Fight Night in London on 22 March, Afrosport reports.

Edwards, who was initially supposed to fight No. 4 ranked Jack Della Maddalena at O2 Arena, will now face fifth-ranked American Sean Brady as part of several changes announced by CEO Dana White.

Maddalena, meanwhile, has been given a shot at the title, as the 28-year-old Australian will challenge Belal Muhammad for the welterweight title at UFC 315 in Quebec, Canada, on 10 May.

Edwards conceded his title to Muhammad at UFC 304 in Manchester last July, losing to the American by unanimous decision to end his 12-fight win streak.

Brady (17-1), on the other hand, has been impeccable in his UFC career, suffering only one defeat—a second-round TKO stoppage to Muhammad on 22 October 2022, at UFC 280.

The 32-year-old is currently on a two-fight winning streak, including defeating former title challenger Gilbert Burns via unanimous decision.

The co-main event at UFC 315 will feature Kyrgyzstan-born flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko defending her belt against France’s Manon Fiorot.
