Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League could be an advantage for the club, Afrosport reports.
The Red Devils had a dismal season where they finished 15th in the Premier League, their worst finish in 35 years while they lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
This denied them the chance to play among Europe’s elite next season, making it the first time they have failed to do so in back-to-back seasons in the post-Alex Ferguson era.
It was also the first time they failed to qualify for any European competition since the 2014-15 campaign.
Speaking at the United’s post-season tour of Malaysia, Amorim said: “I have to say that for us not to be in the Champions League could be an advantage, to perform well, to perform better, to prepare better [for] the games.
“To build that core that we need for the future, so I think it’s a good thing for us to take advantage of not having European games.”

Amorim will now focus on rebuilding his squad in the summer especially in the transfer market, with United reportedly close to agreeing a £62.5 million move for Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha.
