AFCON 2025 qualifiers: Addo refuses to resign despite dismal Ghana campaign

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has stated that he will not resign from his position following the Black Stars’ dismal 2025 AFCON qualification campaign, Afrosport reports.

The four-time AFCON champions lost 2-1 at home to Niger on Monday which meant they failed to win any of their six games, drawing three and losing another three.

It saw Ghana finish bottom of Group F behind Angola, Sudan and Niger and will now miss out on an AFCON tournament for the first time in two decades.

“I’m not the person who can resign. If I had done this, I’d never have become a player or even a coach,” Addo said after the game.

“If you know where I have come from as a person to arrive at this job you won’t even ask about resignation.

“People shouting and telling me to resign can’t affect me.”

Ghana will now turn their attention to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The West African giants have better form in series are joint top of Group I with Comoros on nine points.
