Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen is a major doubt for their semi-final game against South Africa at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Osimhen is in the Ivorian commercial capital of Abidjan while the rest of the Super Eagles squad arrived in Bouake on Monday to continue preparations for Wednesday match.
The Napoli striker is reported to be suffering from abdominal discomfort and he is under monitoring.
Osimhen who has played in every of the Super Eagles match in Ivory Coast, could still join Jose Peseiro’s team this evening if he recovers in time.
A statement from the Super Eagles camp read: “Members of the team traveled from Abidjan to Bouaké today via a 10pm Air Cote D’Ivoire flight. Osimhen did not however make the trip as a result of an abdominal discomfort.
“Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm.”
Osimhen has scored a goal so far after five appearances at 2023 Africa Cup of Nations which came in their 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea on January 14.
