Reigning African champions Senegal have fixed a date for an international friendly game against 2019 African champions Algeria as part of their preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast.
The Senegalese Football Federation revealed on Monday that the game which would be a rematch of the AFCON 2019 final will take place at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, Dakar.
The Teranga Lions and the Desert Foxes have both secured their spots in next year’s AFCON after dominating their groups in the qualifiers.
Before the friendly encounter, Senegal would wrap up their AFCON qualifiers schedule against Rwanda on September 4 while Algeria need to play Tanzania in their final Group F match.
The last time the first team of Senegal and Algeria faced off in a game was at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final with Baghdad Bounedjah scoring the only goal that handed the North Africans the title in Egypt.
The extension of the agreement between the Senegalese FA and the Algerian FA would also see the Senegal women national team take on their Algerian counterparts in back-to-back friendly games fixed for July 14 and 18 at the Stade Lat Dior in Thies.
