Kompany admits Bayern Munich Bundesliga preparations disrupted by Club World Cup

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has admitted that his team’s preparations for the upcoming Bundesliga season have been disrupted because of their participation at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, Afrosport reports.

The expanded intercontinental tournament will finish on July 13, meaning participating teams will have limited time to recuperate before the 2025-26 season commences.

Regardless of the disruption, Kompany has taken some positives from playing in the competition.

“I think there’s two sides to the argument,” he said ahead of Bayern’s final Group C with Benfica in Charlotte.

“I think there’s the argument of us building team cohesion and spending time [together]. It’s perhaps faster for the integration of players like Jonathan Tah and Tom Bischof, and players who are just joining…

“But I think there’s a counter-argument as well that for the next season we will have almost no preparation.”

He added: “I mean, if you look at all the scientific research around what is the right type of preparation to prepare a new season, we are just throwing the book away and we’re just going to start the new season, with all the pressures that you have to win every game as well.

“It’s got its advantages as well because we’re working on details, whereas in national teams you’re working on basics.  It’s an interesting experience.”

Bayern are through to the Club World Cup round of 16 after dispatching Auckland City of New Zealand 10-0 in their first outing before edging out Argentine heavyweights Boca Juniors 2-1. Victory against Benfica at the Bank of America Stadium on Tuesday will see them seal top spot in Group C.
