Nigerian sprinter and world record holder Tobi Amusan emerged victorious at the 100-meter hurdles at the ongoing Stockholm Diamond League in Sweden on Sunday.

The reigning world champion was leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else as she raced to a time of 12.52 seconds, putting the cold and wet conditions on the track behind her.

Ireland’s Sarah Lavin finished in second place with a personal best time of 12.73s, while Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, who was initially close to Amusan, ended the race in third place with a time of 12.78s.

The 26-year-old Nigerian won her first race of the Diamond League season after finishing second behind rival Jasmine Camacho-Quinn in Lausanne, Switzerland, some days ago, despite tying her season’s best time of 12.47s.

“I am excited to be out here competing and it is great to get the win on the back of Lausanne [silver],” Amusan said after the race.

“The rain stopped but it was still very cold. I am not very happy with where I am but I trust in the process even when it is not necessarily processing right.”

Amusan continues to improve this season, having won bronze at the Ostrava Golden Spike in the Czech Republic last week, silver in Lausanne, and now gold in Stockholm, as she prepares for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August.
