NBA: Lakers’ Dorian Finney-Smith undergoes ankle surgery

Los Angeles Lakers forward Dorian Finney-Smith has undergone surgery on his left ankle and is expected to return in time for training camp ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season, Afrosport reports.

Finney-Smith has battled with an ankle problem for the past few seasons and the surgery provides a lasting solution for the former Dallas Mavericks man.

He joined the Lakers from the Brooklyn Nets last December and had to sit out eight games due to “left ankle injury management” – same injury that kept him out for 12 games with the Nets.

The 32-year-old played a major role in helping Los Angeles secure the third seed in the Western Conference as well as their first 50-win season since 2019-20. The Lakers had a 29-14 record in 43 games since his trade to LA, including going 14-6 in the 20 games he started during the regular season.

Finney-Smith averaged 7.9 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists for the Lakers, while shooting 44.2% from the field and 39.8% from the 3-point line.
