The Flying Eagles of Nigeria crashed out of the 2023 African Games after a 3-2 loss to Senegal in their final Group B on Friday night.
Both sides were tied on three points after losses to Uganda and victories over South Sudan. Whoever got the three points in Accra was therfore going to join Uganda in the semi-finals.
It seemed Ladan Bosso’s men were going to have that edge when Charles Agada put them in front in the second minute of the game. Senegal however hit back with a brace from Idrissa Gueye in the space of seven minutes to hand them a 2-1 halftime lead.
Francis Izuogu levelled matters for Nigeria in the 50th minute but Serigne Diouf popped up with the winner in the 65th minute from the penalty spot.
Senegal were reduced to 10 men in added time but it did not stop them from bagging the three points and reaching the semi-finals.
