Zambia boosted preparations for their maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance with a commanding 3-2 win against Germany in an international friendly on Friday.
Barbra Banda’s brace and Racheal Kundananji’s effort powered the Copper Queens a famous win over the two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champions and eight-time European champions.
It was a cagey first-half in Furth as both teams could not break the deadlock until Bandra scored the opening goal for Zambia in the 48th minute.
Kundananji doubled the lead for the third-best team at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with her effort in the 54th minute.
Germany, however, left it late to stage a comeback with Schuller and Popp equalising in the 91st and 100th minute of stoppage-time.
The game was about to end in a draw but captain Bandra stepped up to be the last-minute heroine for Zambia with her match-winning goal in the 102th minute.
The Copper Queens have been involved in high-profile friendly games with teams that are heading to Australia and New Zealand since June.
They lost 3-2 to the Republic of Ireland on June 22 and settled for a 3-3 draw against Switzerland on June 30.
Zambia are in Group C of the Women’s World Cup against Japan, Spain and Costa Rica.
