Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum said he will continue to be a voice for his team as they get ready to begin their campaign FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 on Friday morning.
Waldrum has been outspoken with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the build-up to the competition in Australia and New Zealand, accusing the country’s football body of misappropriation of funds and their preparations.
Although his response has resulted in a face-off with the NFF, the American coach said his actions were for the welfare his players deserve.
With Nigeria set to play Canada in New Zealand on Friday, Waldrum said he has turned his attention to the field as they hope to begin their quest in the Women’s World Cup on a promising note.
“I think the players have appreciated the fact that I will step up for them and speak out on their behalf,” Waldrum said in a press conference.
“As a coach, I need to be a voice for the girls and fight for the things that they deserve to be getting.
“What we’ve said is out there. Now let’s set it aside and focus on football. Everything has always been about football.”
