The highly anticipated 2024 CAF Awards went down on Monday with a star-studded ceremony at the iconic Palais des Congres in Marrakech, Morocco.
Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), and FIFA President Gianni Infantino were present at the award ceremony alongside past and present African football stars.
The 2024 CAF Awards, which were co-hosted by Kate Scott and Moroccan journalist Jalal Bouzrara, had entertaining performances from Moroccan artist Dystinct, as well as Tanzanian entertainer Diamond Platnumz.
Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman and Zambian forward Barbra Banda were the biggest winners of the 2024 CAF Awards, with the duo taking home the African Player of the Year awards in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams stopped two awards as he was named Men’s Goalkeeper of the Year and Interclub Player of the Year, while Nigeria international Chiamaka Nnadozie retained her title as Africa’s best women’s goalkeeper.
The Super Falcons were voted the Women’s National Team of the Year, while the Elephants of Ivory Coast took home the men’s award.
The Club of the Year award went to Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly and TP Mazembe of DR Congo in the men’s and women’s games, respectively, while Angolan forward Mabululu took home the trophy for the Goal of the Year, having amassed a whopping 121,192 votes with his superb finish against Namibia in the AFCON 2023 Round of 16.
