Victor Osimhen set a new European goal record as Galatasaray defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening, Afrosport reports.
The Nigerian was making his third straight start for the Turkish giants after recovering from a muscle injury but it was Yunus Akgun who put them ahead on home soil in the sixth minute.
Spurs levelled in the 12th minute through Will Lankshear but Gala responded back thanks to Osimhen and his brace in the 31st and 39th minute.
It marked the first time the reigning African Player of the year and 2023 Capocannoniere recipient scored twice in the first half of an European game.
It was also the first time he scored for Galatasaray in the Europa League this season, taking his tally to six goals and three assists in eight competitive games.

Lankshear was sent off for a second yellow card on the hour mark but Spurs still managed to find a consolation goal in the 69th minute via Dominic Solanke.
Galatasaray will turn their attention next to a Super Lig game on Sunday against Samsunspor on Sunday before Osimhen will jet off for international duty for the Super Eagles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda and Benin.
