UEL: Amorim describes his first Manchester United win as ‘special’

Ruben Amorim described his first win as Manchester United head coach as “special” following Thursday’s 3-2 Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford, Afrosport reports.

The Red Devils had to work their socks off for the victory with Rasmus Hojlund’s brace ensured they recorded back-to-back European wins.

Amorim was pleased with the win particularly because it was in front of the home crowd which he does not want to upset moving forward.

“It was special because half of the stadium doesn’t know me,” the Portuguese said. “And you can say I came from Portugal and half of the city doesn’t know me. And I have done nothing for this club yet.

“But the way they support me, in the beginning I felt that I’m not alone. I’m like one of them now. And it was really special. And I hope not to disappoint my supporters.”

Meanwhile, Bodo/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen rued his team’s chance at getting a upset win having led 2-1 at some stage in the first half.

“You can see already now that his system, how he is thinking. And for us, the quality is high enough,” he stated.

“So, for us today, it was a really hard, a tough game. We were in it in most of the first half. But then 20-25 minutes of the second half, we were not good enough. We open too much to them. And then you see the qualities in this team.”

Amorim will hope to make it another win in front of the Old Trafford faithful when they host Everton on Sunday afternoon.
