Youssef En-Nesyri scored for Sevilla but it was not enough as Manchester City lifted the UEFA Super Cup with a 5-4 penalty shootout victory after a 1-1 draw in regular time at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus on Wednesday.
The Citizens claimed their maiden UEFA Champions League trophy by defeating Inter Milan in Istanbul back in May to complete a historic treble while the Los Nervionenses lifted their seventh Europa League crown to further cement their place as the most successful team in the European second-tier competition.
Sevilla were gunning for a second Super Cup title after their first in 2006 when they defeated Barcelona 3-0 in Monaco. The Andalusian outfit took the lead in the 25th minute in Piraeus with En-Nesyri sending a towering header into the net after connecting with Marcos Acuna’s cross.

The game remained in favour of Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side until the 63rd minute when Cole Palmer headed in Rodri’s brilliant cross to level the match.
Things ended all square at the end of 90 minutes and off it went to penalties. Man City converted all their five penalties while Sevilla converted all theirs except for the fifth spot kick which Nemanja Gujelj missed, handing City boss Pep Guardiola his third Super Cup after guiding Barcelona to glory in 2009 and 2011.
